Rally on Parliament Hill, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, May 6, 2011
Even though the weather wasn't going to be looking all that great, on May 6th 2011 a Lyme Disease Awareness Rally was held on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Much to my surprise, there was a turn out of 50-60 people that joined up.
'Lyme Fighters' as I called them, came from as far away as Montreal and Toronto, by car and plane, both Lyme Disease patients, as well as their family and friends. It turned out to be a beautiful day all the way around, a lot of people were informed about Lyme during the rally, and there was about 1000 flyers handed out to the public.
Although our government had not returned to work yet on the Hill due to the elections only a few days prior, there was a lot of interest from the public, and I think we gained what I had planned, and at least informed one more person about Lyme, what to watch out for and how to help them protect themselves, as well as having them ask their doctors if they know anything about Lyme, pointing out that our pets get better treatment and testing than people do.
CBC Ottawa was there for a short time, unfortunately no other forms of media showed up. CBC did do a very short clip of the rally. Some coverage no matter how small, is still better than nothing.
I'd just like to thank everyone that came, and to help make this event possible, and in my eyes, a great success, and I look forward to doing it again next year, hopefully making more of an impact, after all, this is our 'Nations' Capitol.
Trudy.
