Board of Directors - 2007/08 

Satyen N. Banerjee Ph.D (Richmond, BC)
We are sad to announce that Dr. Banerjee passed away suddenly in December 2007. He was retired as Head of Vector Borne Disease, B.C. Centers for Disease Control. Assoc., Clinical Professor, Dept. of Pathology and Lab. Medicine, UBC. He has been investigating Lyme disease in Canada since 1985. For those who had the pleasure to meet Dr. Banerjee, they quickly realized they met one of those rare champions of humanity and goodness.

Larry Burke, B., Des. MGDC (Halifax, NS)
Larry's wife contracted Lyme disease in Nova Scotia in 1999. Larry is currently active as the Nova Scotia representative of the Canadian Lyme Disease Foundation. Mr. Burke has served on the communications board of the Grace Maternity Hospital Foundation

George Chaconas Ph.D. (Calgary, AB)
Professor, Departments of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Microbiology & Infectious Diseases. Chair - Bacterial Pathogenesis Research Group. Canada Research Chair in the Molecular Biology of Lyme Disease.

W. Reuben Kaufman Ph.D, (Edmonton, AB)
Professor of Zoology, University of Alberta. His area of research expertise since the early 1970s is the physiology, pharmacology and endocrinology of ixodid ticks, the family that includes vectors of B. burgdorferi.

Dr. Emmanuel Kolyvas, (Granby City, QC)
Infectious Disease/Microbiology, Granby City Hospital, Granby City, Quebec. Has a special interest in the emergence of Lyme disease in Quebec.

Suzanne Marineau (Quebec City, QC)
An Orthoptist and ophthalmic assistant specialized in facial trauma. She studied in France and has practiced in France and Quebec over 15 years. She has done public conferences and information about Orthoptic treatment and visual problems. Her sister has lyme disease. She is a volunteer for the Canadian Lyme Disease Foundation in Quebec.

Pat McGeer Ph.d (Vanc. BC)
Leading researcher on Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative diseases. He is Professor Emeritus in the Faculty of Medicine at UBC. He also served as MLA and Cabinet Minister in BC until 1986. In 2004, Dr. Patrick McGeer was awarded the Henry Wisniewski prize given to the top Alzheimer's disease researcher. His honours and awards include Honourary Doctors of Science degrees from UBC, the Medal of Service from the Cam Coady Foundation, the Clarke Institute of Psychiatry Prize from the University of Toronto, and a lifetime achievement award from the Science Council of B.C.. He along with his wife, Edith McGeer Ph.d were appointed as Officers of the Order of Canada in 1995, and Fellows of the Royal Society of Canada in 2002.

Judith Miklossy Ph.d (Vanc. BC)
Judith Miklossy, MD, PhD is a neuropathologist board certified in neurology and psychiatry with experience in molecular biology. She has been involved in the research of Lyme disease for approximately 20 years.

Ernie Murakami, MD, (Hope BC)
Bachelor in Bacteriology and Immunology,. Professor Emeritus, UBC Medical School. He has been honored an award from UBC for Undergrad Teaching and, on the occasion of UBC's 50th Anniversary, a Gold Medal for his contribution of Lyme Disease teachings. He was Medical Director of the Fraser Health Authority. At Fraser Canyon Hospital he was Head of Emergency, President of Medical Staff and Chief of Staff. With his special interest in Lyme Disease, Dr. Murakami researches, publishes, and gives lectures which include an annual lecture on wood ticks to the College of Family Physicians. He has also lectured at World Lyme Disease Conferences, Vancouver in 1995, and in Denver

Freeda Wilson B.A., (Westbank, BC)
She has been active in the formation of and expansion of the foundation. She is pursuing her master's degree in integrated studies at UBC Okanagan.

Jim Wilson A.I.I.C., (Westbank, BC)
President and founder of the Canadian Lyme Disease Foundation, victim of lyme, father of victims of lyme. He has been involved in networking with Lyme victims and providing information for over 10 years. His background in the investigation of medical malpractice and legal liability matters has given him insight into medical research from a perspective of conflict of evidence.
